Paiva

The Paiva sub-region includes the land owned by the municipality of Castelo de Paiva.
"The sub-region of Paiva is on par with that of Lima, at an intermediate position in relation to temperature variations and high summer temperatures that occur in the region. On the other hand, it is no longer in the sub-regional group with the highest rates of precipitation, since it is not as exposed to the influence of the sea, is further inland and at a higher altitude. It is due to this reason that the red varieties of Amaral and especially Vinhão, achieve great states of maturation and produce some of the most prestigious Vinho Verde red wines throughout the region. White wines are obtained from Arinto, Loureiro and Trajadura, adapted to temperate climates and, therefore, common to almost all the Vinho Verde Region, but here with an ally that is Averse a more characteristic variety of the interior sub-regions."
