Ponte de Lima is located in the heart of the Vinho Verde Region.
Demarcated
in 1908, this region is divided into nine sub-regions: Monção/ Melgaço,
Lima, Cávado, Ave, Basto, Sousa, Amarante, Baião and Paiva. It covers
much of the old province of Entre-Douro-e-Minho, limited by rivers that
gave it its name.
The climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean
winds, which reach all the valleys of the rivers that run east-west of
the territory. The region has moderate temperatures and temperature
ranges, low insolation and high rainfall.
From a "geological
point of view, the region of the Vinho Verde is based on granitic
formations, except for two narrow tracks, a Silurian track and a schist
one that cross a NW-SE direction."
