Sousa

The Sousa sub-region includes the municipalities of Felgueiras, Lousada, Paços de Ferreira, Paredes and Penafiel.
"As in the sub-regions of Ave and Cávado, the weather is mild, the thermal amplitudes are low, as well as the number of days of sweltering heat in the summer. With regard to rainfall, it is also characterized by being below average. This can be considered a transitional sub-region, since it is not directly exposed to the Atlantic influence, however, this influence is felt due to a slightly sharp relief. This is an indoor area but without strong winters and very hot summers. The main grape varieties are typical of the mildest places, Arinto, Loureiro and Trajadura, to which the Azal and Avesso are added for a more demanding maturation. For red Vinho Verde, Borraçal and Vinhão grape varieties spread throughout the region are vinified, as well as Amaral and Espadeiro. The latter is widely used for the production of rosé wines."
